I have owned rough collies since 1984, my first collie came from Ladypark and Brettonpark Lines. I didn’t realise its significance at the time Ch Lochinvar of Ladypark featured prominently on his pedigree and although he was never shown, I always felt that may be he should have been. I have also owned from a young age German Shepherds since 1971 coming from a family that bred them. I started showing initially with a German Shepherd but mainly competed prior to this in Obedience and Agility which I still do with my current dogs Tilus Shadow of Shadowpark and Roxanne of Shadowpark.
Having caught the showing bug as many others do I approached Val Geddes and the Ingledene Kennels who kindly allowed me to have one of her dogs. Val has given me much support since starting to show with Ingledene All About Love who is the grandson of Ch Ingledene Late Night Love the bitch record CC holder. He qualified for Crufts at his very first show and has consistently gained many high places at championship shows ever since, gaining his stud book number at the Midland Collie Club Championship show in 2014.
My kennel name of Shadowpark finally came after 35 years of thinking about having an affix (since 1971) which in itself must be some kind of record. After many attempts at finding a suitable name but being repeatedly turned down by the Kennel Club my ninth attempt was successful. Shadow came from the name of my German Shepherd both his registered KC name and his pet name and which has strangely re-occurred coincidently in many of the dogs I own or have owned and ‘park’ came from some of the great rough collie kennel names of the past.
I am now the UK Ambassador for the Saartje Foundation, Holland which works in collaboration with the University of Utrecht's Faculty of Veterinary Science for Pituitary Dwarfism in Dogs.
